Hello; I am using a local copy of tunderbird on my desktop, and now have 33GB of messages in over 1400 folders. I now need to make this reachable via internet. I have tried using Xforwarding and VNC, but they are nor appropriate. I want to try to make my mbox files accessible via IMAP (maybe it won't be better, but I wanna try).

If I setup an IMAP server, and just move the mbfiles from my TB profile, to the imap server, will it work smoothly ? Yes I intend to do this wile both TB and IMAP server and shutdown to avoid locking issues.

But I don't just move a few mbox files; I need to move a complete directory. will the directory hierarchy behave correctly ?

In the process, should I remove the .msf files ?

I have setup dovecot, but, it seems to not support subdirs in mbox format. Is there an other service that can handle subfolders with mbox, or, do I have to export all my mbox into maildir ?
