hotmail + hotwayd/thuderbird/evolution

hello all..

running SUSE 8.2 on a dell inspiron 9100

trying to set up any email client to read my hotmail ... still can't get it to work

i downloaded hotwayd and got it running
i added hotwayd : 127.0.0.1 to my hosts.allow file
(i'm using the xinetd service)

i tried Evolution and Thunderbird...i can send email but not recieve/download any

i even killed my firewall for the hell of it...that did me no good

any ideas?

i apologize if this was already reported by another user...i wasnt able to find anything on this..

AFAIK with most 'free' webmail accounts, you have to stump up some cash before you can get POP access to your account using Kmail, Evolution, TBird etc etc. Most providers class this as a 'premium service'. I know Yahoo offer a package for this at about $15 a year. I don't see why MSN would be any different.
HTH.

I have just installed hotwayd and followed the instructions step by step and the program works great. Can you put the error you get when you try to get the messages?

that's the thing...i'm not gettnig any error messages.....i think something is wacky with my pop server...because i can send email but i can't recieve or download

when i : nmap localhost

i get 110/tcp open pop-3
which means that my pop server is running right?

however..if i try to telnet to localhost 110....i get "connection refused error message"

did that help at all?

***update****
if i check my /var/log/messages
Aug 5 19:18:15 linux xinetd[12572]: execv( /root/hotwayd-0.8 ) failed: Permission denied

you've installed hotwayd into root's home directory, which means it can't be executed by ordinary users.

install it to /usr/bin or similar
