Unhappy LINux RH8.1 won't detect my cd


the computer boots up with installation cd one and then it tells me to select the language and country and all that...but when it gets to where to install files from and i select CD Rom drive it says there was no Linux cd detected please insert a linux cd and try again. But the installation cd 1 is in there!!! whats wrong with this? any help? please!

you could check if the cd is ok ... or maybe it might be asking to insert disk 2 instead.

it won't let me eject the cd to put in disc to. and at the beginning where i run the command to check the media it just going into installation....is there anothe way where i can just download it directly from the redhat ftp and install directly from there without having to use the cd's at all?

Run the CD checker the starts when you first try to install. While I've had disks labeled as "bad" that installed fine, I've never had a disk come back "good" that messed up. If it comes back okay, I'd say you've got a hardware issue or in incompatibility with the beta software.

I'm betting that the CD is bad.

so i guess i'd be stuck with RH 7.1 for a while then on my laptop
:-/ what is the command to check the media ?

Just put it in the CD drive and reboot. It will be the first or second screen that pops up.

Is the CD-ROM drive SCSI or IDE? I'm currently having an install problem with RH 8.0 because I don't have the correct driver for the SCSI CD-ROM drive.
