Linphone with msn-messenger

Has anyone actually succesfully made a voice-call from linphone to msn-messenger or vice versa? I've been trying this with my friend and we just can't seem to make it work. I have a hotmail account and I've set is up to work as sip registrar on my linphone. He also has a hotmail account and msn-messenger on his windows system. Contacting one another just doesn't work, it doesn't work with sip:[hotmailaccount]@hotmail.com, neither will it work with [useraccout]@ip-address.

Previously we succesfully used netmeeting/gnomemeeting for this task, but nowdays that the new gnomemeeting requires the whole gnome (it used to work just fine with a couple of gnome-libs and gconf), this is quite out of the question. I hated gnomemeeting from the beginning anyway

So: if anyone has had any success with such a project, could you PLEASE tell me exactly how it happens and how you got it to work.
