depending on if you want to install using RPM or tar.gz
What distro are you using ? If its Redhat or Mandrake, go with RPM install, if your using like Slackware or something like that, install from source which would be the tar.gz file. Read the docs there, they should explain which and what to download.
And the forums is what your looking at when you asked the question. Linuxquestions is a forum.
You can either download the dependency it needs which would be libperl.so.5.8 or maybe go with a previous version of gaim that might not need any other dependecies.

I have downloaded this file, but when i click on it, it saysependency Problem:
libperl.so.5.8 is needed by gaim-0.59.1-1
???what do i do??
if it asks for packages u don't have u just download those packages and install them..
if it says "libperl.so.5.8 is needed by gaim-0.59.1-1" u go to http://www.google.com/linux and u search on libperl5.8 or something related. then get the tar.gz file or rpm if available and u install the pacakge according to <packagedir>README
then do ./configure again and see if it needs other dependecies
it's just a matter of logical thinking
