links within programs dont launch browser

No matter which program (they are specifically designed to run on linux) I use i never can click on a link from a menu and be shown the appropriate webpage within firefox. Also i would like firefox to be my default browser if possible. I am using fedora core 3 with KDE 3.3.

Have you tried setting firefox as the default browser in the kde control center>Components>component chooser?
