I'm trying to record using my Mic in. I have an onboard CMI8738 chip. I know it works because I can do it fine in Windows. Using Mandrake 10.1 Official, and QJackQTL for my JACK GUI. Here is what it outputs when I start it up:
20:56:26.653 Statistics reset.
20:56:26.666 Startup script...
20:56:26.667 artsshell -q terminate
20:56:26.796 MIDI connection graph change.
20:56:27.084 Startup script terminated with exit status=256.
20:56:27.085 JACK is starting...
20:56:27.086 /usr/bin/jackd -R -m -dalsa -dhw:0 -r44100 -p1024 -n2 -i1 -o1
20:56:27.104 JACK was started with PID=16567 (0x40b7).

I try it with OSS and I get the same, except it cannot load driver module oss.
What is going on??? I'm clueless, and nothing online from a google search has helped at all. Not many people seem to have good luck with JACK!!
hi jack works fine but it needs to be run with root permissions or with a special kernel patch
i think just run it with sudo
sudo qjackctl
then
sudo ladccad --no-ipv6 (if you are trying to use that)
then
sudo ardour
that works for me (not using mandrake)
some distros have disabled audio for root so make sure root has permissions on audio devices
So really, I am not getting any audio into my mic (or line in) on my soundcard that linux can see.
Using QArecord, and looking at the bar graph. Also have Audacity and it shows the same thing.
What is going on that I don't have any input audio? Works fine in windows. Maybe fixing this will fix the JACK problem. Says I'm using snd-cmipci driver/module on my CMI8738. Output works just fine in all progs.
in alsa you have to enable a "capture" device
the device names sometimes are different from driver to driver
do
amixer to see all the available devices
they say stuff like
Capture 100 [100%]
Capture [off]
Capture 15 [100%] [on]
or whatever
try something like
amixer set Capture cap
amixer set Mix cap
amixer set Mic cap
