Angry Installing OpenOffice 3 deb Packages in Debian 5


I have downloaded the deb packages for OpenOffice 3 to my Debian machine under home. I can't figure out how to install these packages or add them to the list using Synaptic Package Manager.They are all inder a directory under /home/stephen.
Help!!

Add the unstable repo then do apt-get update && apt-get install openoffice.org or
download the packages from Openffice.org cd to the dir, then as root do dpkg-i *.deb that will install all of the packages at once

If you install them via Craig's 2nd option (get them from the Openoffice site) then remember that they will be put in the /opt folder. This is useful to know for creating desktops links to them and configuring the file associations. This is the method I use, BTW.
I love Debian but "conservative" doesn't even begin to describe their policies (this is good. I'm not complaining). Openoffice3 hasn't even hit Squeeze yet. This is why I prefer getting OOo from its own site and not waiting for the packages to hit the testing repos.
