Hi. Time ago i had use SuSE 7.2 . It have an X config program: SaX (or sax). ¿Have you it? You can configure X with this program, it have a graphic (vga) interface.
By the way, do you try to reinstall kdm/kde from liveCD? It must have rpms of their programs.
Or restore old files with rpm? (i can't remember command/optiones to do that)

Have a nice day.

Hi. Again.
I had forget to say: you can send programs messages from background to a file with:

startx &> /tmp/startx-error-message.txt

or:

startx &> /home/user/startx-error-message.txt

It may show you startx error messages.

Have a nice day.

Sorry to be back only now.

Thanks for mentioning SaX2. It was discontinued long ago. There was an effort to revive it as SaX3 but AFAIK it never come to completion. So it is not included in the repositories anymore.

SuSE 7.2 is more than 10 years old...

Tumbleweed doesn't come as live-CD, one has to install the entire distribution. So I finally re-installed by now.

Nice trick, thanks for sharing. A nice day to you, too.
