Hi Dan,
Using Fedora 11 here and only default repositories, I can only get Firefox 3.5 not the latest 3.5.1. Its for this reason that I never install Firefox/Thunderbird via yum. I always download the file from:
http://www.getfirefox.com
Just now I downloaded:
firefox-3.5.1.tar.bz2
then ran:
tar -jxvf firefox-3.5.1.tar.bz2
This will uncompress/untar the file into your current directory. Then run it by:
./firefox/firefox
This I do into my own home directory, so no I do not need to be root. If you install via
yum localinstall localfile.rpm
or
rpm -i localfile.rpm
then yes you will need to be root.
Just a general note, if I ever install any software from source or tar file I never install into any location that is controlled by a package manager, yum/apt...
Perhaps someone will post a Fedora core 9 repository that offers firefox 3.5.1. By far the easiest is to keep software installed/updated using yum, but you will not always get the latest version
Regards
Ian
