I downloaded firefox-1.5.0.4.tar.gz to install on my SuSE 10 system and I am having a few issues. First I see:
Quote:
Linux/GTK2
Extract the tarball in the directory where you want to install Firefox:
tar -xzvf firefox-1.5.0.4.tar.gz
This will create a firefox subdirectory of that directory.

What directory would be best to install Firefox or any software in general? I tried to install it and I got the 'firefox' subdirectory but could not figure out what to do at that point. The 'readme.txt' file just directed me to the above quote. I tried to run './configure' but that would not work.
Is there a disadvantage to installing via tar.gz and not a .rpm? Will YaST still update applications installed via tar.gz? Thanks.
