install a messanger

hi there i am a newbie for linux. i just installed suse 9.1 personal last day.i don't know any about linux but i am sure i am gonna learn and i started from books and forums.but i need a messanger right now including yahoo and msn.i jst downloaded gaim and kopete files.there are install notes in them but i could not understand any.can u give explain how i install them from the begining step by step.thanks.i am waiting people who wants to help

yes, open YAST and pick GAIM and it should install everything for you.

Of course i don't use SUSE so i'm not sure, but you should use your distrobutions package management system to install software.

i went YAST>install and remove software and write down gaim and aloso kopete but it could find anything..

Kopete is labelled as kdenetwork-instant-messenger or something similar. Suse 9.1 personal lacks a lot of packages that are in the professional version. If you search on google or this site, there are tips on how to convert Suse 9.1 personal to the professional version.
