Importing Outlook pst into Thunderbird 24.2 help, please

Hi

My XP laptop screen died and I don't have access to an external monitor, so going down the route of installing Thunderbird for windows is not possible.

I'm a newbie to Ubuntu and would really appreciate it if someone could help me with importing my Outlook 2003 pst files into TB or suggest current TB add-ons that still show when you search for them (ImportExport tool does not show in my list of add-ons).

Thanks

You can open T-Bird and go to the Tools menu. Click on the item Import and a wizard will open that guides you through the process.

Unfortunately, that does not work. No option to select anything appears. I've searched this forum fairly extensively and that is how I know that that method doesn't work. If I still had access to an XP laptop, the easy way is to install TB for Windoze onto it, and then import the mail. Once you've done that, you can simply copy the home folder for TB to the Ubuntu laptop.

I did this with an external command line program, readpst, packaged into the "pst-utils" package on Debian(and probably Ubuntu). It extracts the mails into mbox format (each folder in the pst will become one mbox file) that is TB's native format and then you can copy them in the TB's profile folder where the other mbox files are or point TB to your files.
I did this on my Linux box so you dont need anything else for it (besides the "readpst" executable and its dependencies) to work.
