You need to have a working sendmail or postfix or exim or....
It should be able to send to the outside, eq setup with a smarthost.
Take a look at
http://cri.ch/linux/docs/sk0009.html

Kind regards

If your system isn't set up to send mail, it won't do anything...kind of like having one walkie-talkie. You need to configure either postfix or sendmail (both do the same things, but have different features), to send the mail along.

You don't say what version/distro of Linux, what environment, etc., so it's hard to give any details. If you Google for your distro, and a sendmail or postfix howto, you should find plenty. If you're in an office, you may want to ask your network/mail admins what the relay server is, and configure things accordingly. You can also set up both servers to use your ISP's mail system, but that's a bit more involved.

This thread is a bit old, but contains valuable information:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...server-452116/

Also, look up on Google "fedora 13 sendmail howto". Lots of docs to help you get it set up and working. Should be a matter of "yum install sendmail", then following the basic how-tos for configuration. The only twist will be getting it to work with your ISP via whatever authentication they have.
