How to make a custom wallpaper with Gimp or other??

Hello guys
can someone tell me how to make a custom wallpaper
with my multidistro logo on it??

I have no ideas and each time I try using gimp i get lost

What sort of thing are you trying to do? There are tutorials on the web for the Gimp, such as: http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/ (Tutorials for Beginners). In fact, Google for "gimp tutorials for beginners" to see what's available.

I'm trying to make a custom boot image, in png or jpg
for a isolinux/syslinux background for my new cd/usb download

I just need to know how to make a banner, with text
and stick that on a fractal wallpaper I made

everytime I try to put text in it
it'small and only in a straight line...?
