How to make a custom wallpaper with Gimp or other??

What sort of thing are you trying to do? There are tutorials on the web for the Gimp, such as: (Tutorials for Beginners). In fact, Google for "gimp tutorials for beginners" to see what's available.

Thanks Xavier:)

I'm trying to make a custom boot image, in png or jpg
for a isolinux/syslinux background for my new cd/usb download

I just need to know how to make a banner, with text
and stick that on a fractal wallpaper I made

everytime I try to put text in it
it'small and only in a straight line...?:(

ok, I'll check out that link

So, this is what I'm talking about
I wanna add a logo to the first menu

so, that's gonna be my new cd/usb and I need only to fix the pic for the menu
