Dear Friends,
New to Linux and have Knoppix 5.0 (Live DVD) but can only see or load in the memory or Live but don't know how to install it on the Harddisk. All the Hardware detected in the Live Mode. No Problem with the Live Mode but only don't know How to Install it on the Hard disk. Kindly Show me the Process.
Maybe I'm not functioning at my best today but isn't Knoppix based on Debian? In other words, you could just install Debian (or another distro) if you want a full HD install. This would probably be a better option, unless you are shy on disk space... For a newbie it makes sense to install something more mainstream. That way if you run into problems there are plenty of others who can help you.
I've heard of it being done. Nevertheless, installing a "live" CD based distro to the hard disk wouldn't seem like sound advice to me if I were giving it... But I've been mistaken before. Anyone that has experience with this care to enlighten us?
Yes knoppix can be installed on you hard disk. Here is a website that I used when I was trying it out for myself.
Thank U firend and was able to proceed further in the installation. But the software support lacks and feel bit complicated comparing to windows as am new to Linux.
It will take some time coming from windows to linux. A good resource for you might be http://rute.2038bug.com/index.html.gz. Also If you get stuck there is a Knoppix forum on here. Or if you have an issue that is software you can post in the software forum. The best advice I can give you is take your time and be patient. We all still learn everyday. Even the people that have been using linux for years still learn something new.
Edit: Sorry Got distracted and hit the post button. Didn't realize that I had not finished the link.

Kanotix is a rock-solid Linux based on Debian-Sid, which contains the newest packages and recognizes more modern hardware than any other operating system in use today.
Kanotix is assembled for 32 Bit i586 and for AMD 64 using the most up-to-date kernel with unique patches.
Kanotix will run as a LIVE-CD on practically any computer -- automatically detecting and configuring virtually any piece of hardware. It is ideal for analysis, data rescue, forensic work, removal of viruses on Win-PCs - or simply for safe surfing and mailing in an internet cafe. It installs to your hard drive in just a few minutes and is ideal for use on your desktop workstation or notebook, or as a server.
