Can Knoppix be installed on hard-disk?

Hi,

I will like to try out and install Knoppix on my computer. However, I have read that Knoppix runs from a LiveCD.

So, can Knoppix be installed on a hard disk or is it only runnable from CD?
And also, what is the newest version of Knoppix now?

I have went to the distros subforum to search but knoppix isnt listed there.

The latest version is 3.8.1. It is available from http://www.knopper.net/knoppix-mirrors/index-en.html Yes, it can be installed onto harddisk but its primary goal is that of being a LiveCD. I have 3.8.1 on a CD, I use it when needed, it's doing a great job, but I also had a install of 3.7 in the past. And I might say that it's better to use for a HD install a distro specifically designed for this, such as Knoppix' "father", Debian. I won't say it's not working if installed, but you might encounter some troubles with it.

Of course knoppix can be installed to the hdd.

Heres where you'll usually find good advice on how it's done.

I found it had no problems when I had it installed - though it's fair to say that some have reported problems, personally I just made sure that I changed the apt-sources so that they reflected "proper" debian ones once it was installed, then it was just a case of looking out for any config issues.

After a couple of updates/upgrades, it will have pretty much wiped out virtually all of the knoppix specific stuff, and I found it a very much easier way of getting debian onto a system - "proper" debian can be a bit of a bugger, as large amounts of it have to be done manually, so if you're unfamiliar with CLI, it's quite a good way to go.

regards

John
