gnome-background-properties has quit unexpectedly

I get the error "The Application "gnome-background-properies" has quit unexpectedly" whenever I try to change my background in Gnome. I'm thinking it's something to do with some prerequisite it needed (all of which I've installed), but I'm not sure which one. I googled for this, but only one match comes up, and unanswered as well. Has anyone run into this error?

Moved: Even if you were using LFS which I'm unsure of since its not stated, this question is more suitable in Software.

I also seem to have a problem with gnome-theme-manager (also a part of gnome control-center), I get the error:
"The default theme schemas could not be found on your system. This means that your probably don't have metacity installed, or that your gconf is configured incorrectly."

I have metacity installed, and I tried running some different configurations with gconf to see if it would fix it, but nothing worked.
