Gentoo does not accept any command.

Hello List,

I have a server Linux 2.6.20-gentoo-r8 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) with two hard drives. I cannot log in to set up two network cards or execute any command.

This server has been having problems with the hard drives and the onboard eth0. I changed the two hard drives, I disabled the onboard eth0 in setup and I installed a new network card. Using clonezilla I restored the image in the new hard drive and after that the server starts normally. The problem is that after typing root and password in the login (it works in text mode) I cannot run any command. The time I write something, immediately makes a logout and I have to re-write root and password. The server accepts only the <enter> and the up arrow keys. When I click the up arrow I can see the last commands executed (of course made before making the image) and after <enter> the command is executed.

I tested as a single-user, but the problem continues. This is very rare and I have the doubt that this problem existed before making the image. I always connected the server from my workstation using ssh. I have done a ping to new eth0 from another computer and it responds well. When I try to connect with ssh it not allow me to enter, it displays the message "ssh: connect to host xxxx port 22: Connection refused", so I want to modify the parameters of network cards, but unfortunately I cannot do it.

Thank you for your help.

Eduardo

first thought is corrupt aliases, maybe try:

/bin/ls

and see if it works?

Thanks for your answer.

When I am typing the first character '/', the server makes a logout of root.
