frontpage extensions help

here is what happened. on copying my server to a larger HD somehow things got moved from the /var/www folder and then i had to cp -a them back. when i started to get everything back up and running some of the permissions were incorrect. i am now trying to use FP2002 and i have finally got the right to log in. now when i try and save data or and html file i get an error

'Server Error: Cannot change permissions on file "bla bla.html".'

this server was created before i was part of this office and i don't know what permissions were given to the FP extensions. is there a way that i can figure out what permissions the extensions have and who is the user when logging in with FP?
any help is much appreciated.
