Lightbulb Forward Audio to Remote Speakers

Hello LQ,

I am Bhaskar, and i am trying to forward my audio from laptop to the speakers attached to my desktop. I am using a MacBook with 10.5.2, and the desktop is installed with Ubuntu 8.04. Currently i am using AirFoil for Mac and AirFoil Speakers for Linux, it is doing a good job but, i also wanted to try this the terminal way, so i thought of forwarding the audio from mplayer

on the linux machine, when i do,

Code:
mplayer song.mp3 > /dev/snd/pcmC0D0c
i have the song being played. So i started doing, this on my MacBook,

Code:
mplayer song.mp3 > digerati@192.168.1.2:/dev/snd/pcmC0D0c
which isn't working...

in a way, i was looking for a way to send my sound output from my MacBook to Linux box.

Hope i made my point clear, please let me know if you think i am missing something.
Thanks a bunch.

I also tried mounting the entire / of the linux machine on my MacBook and then sending the output of mplayer to /dev/snd/pcmC0D0c

Still no use.

the output i am getting is,

Code:
-bash: /Users/digerati/Desktop/Linux/dev/snd/pcmC0D0c: Inappropriate file type or format
Cheers,
Bhaskar.

Need help with airfoil

Hi, I was trying to set up airfoil speakers on my linux box (ubuntu 9.10) and I have airfoil on my macbook pro. I am able to connect to my linux box using airfoil but whenever I try to play something nothing comes out of the speakers. I made sure the speakers and everything worked. It seems like you were able to setup airfoil speakers on your computer. Is there any help you could give me?
Thanks
