USB Headphones & OnBoard Audio/Speakers

Hello All,
I have been having trouble getting my Logitech 350 USB Headphones to work in Linux. After hours of googling and searching forums I finally got output from them by changing them to the 0 index in /etc/modprobe.d/sound as follows below and rebooting.
Code:
alias snd-card-1 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel index=1
alias snd-card-0 snd-usb-audio
options snd-usb-audio=0
However this now disables my speakers/main soundcard. Although it it is still visible in KMIX the controls have no effect whatsoever. I know there MUST be a method for enabling the mixing/output functions of both these devices. Or am I going to be stuck changing /etc/modprobe.d/sound and rebooting everytime I want to switch?
