font problem after gtk, pango and cairo update

After updating gtk, pango and cairo to latest version on my SUSE 10.0 system some apps show blocks (squares) instead of characters in the gui. For now, I have problems with gimp and realplayer but there are probably some other apps I don't use often. I tried reinstalling those two from SUSE RPMs but it didn't help. I guess the problem is with fonts but how do I fix it? KDE and most other apps, like for example Firefox, amaroK, Konqueror, Kaffeine, etc, work fine.
