Encoding MP4 Video

How do I convert a video such as an avi or wmv to MP4 format? I'm using Suse9.3 btw.

Well for one thing, you'll need Transcode, which I haven't been able to install yet (through apt that is..)

Then, you'll have to search this forum and/or google, because it's described on lots and lots of webpages step by step
