drop down menus disabled using VNC in Fedora 8

Hi Guys,

I have a weird problem with VNC Server in Fedora 8.

I set up a server and moved it to my remote office, I am using VNC to connect to the desktop.

I can connect to the system fine and use all the icons on the desktop of gnome but none of the dropdown menus work and it does not show programs that are running in the taskbar at the bottom.

I booted the server without a keyboard or mouse physically plugged into the box and did a test connection but did not test everything extensively prior to going home and trying to connect.

When I got home and connected, I discovered there was no access to any of the dropdown menus 'Applications' 'Places' 'System' or the firefox icon on the top bar adjacent to the menus.

The virtual guests on the system can access those menus fine, it's just the host OS that has the problem.

Is it the fact that there is no keyboard or mouse plugged into the system when I booted ?

Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance, Duane

Same problem!

I have the same problem.

However after a reboot, the main menu was responsive, until I edited it (added a new menu item). Since then it is unresponsive until I reboot the machine.

my .vnc/xstartup contains:
#!/bin/sh

# Uncomment the following two lines for normal desktop:
unset SESSION_MANAGER
exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc

[ -x /etc/vnc/xstartup ] && exec /etc/vnc/xstartup
[ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
xsetroot -solid grey
vncconfig -iconic &
xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
twm &

my .vnc/ log file has the following on my first connection (where the menu was responsive)

localuser:root being added to access control list
SESSION_MANAGER=local/unix:/tmp/.ICE-unix/3237
