I am new to linux and i have tried a few differant distros (fedora core 1&4, ubuntu and now mandriva) and i like this one the best. Here is my problem - on my other computer i am using iTunes and have converted all my music to .acc so i could fit everything on my ipod. I put all my music on here (from burned dvd) but now i can't play it. I've read that xine is good. But can it play acc files and if it can--how to i get it??
xine will support aac, but I'm not sure if it comes default (meaning you might have to drop a driver into a directory or something else easy).
xine is primarily for video, and xmms for audio (although there is some cross-cutting between the two). I'm only saying this because there is an aac plugin for xmms, so that may interest you too. xmms looks and acts very similar to WinAmp.
Go to easyurpmi and setup extra software repositories for your version of Mandriva. Setup the main, contrib, updates and plf repos. Once you have done that, you can use the software module in the Mandriva Control Center to install the additional packages you need. The plf repos are the ones that contain libdvdcss, xine win32 codecs and other win32 codecs that will provide you with the capability to play various multimedia formats.
The Mandriva Control Center is the app that runs when you go to KMenu -> System -> Configuration -> Configure Your Computer. You can also start it from the command line by running the drakconf command.
