Converting mujsic and changing quality
I am wondering what would be the best tools to use to convert music files from Ogg vorbis to mp3 and to also change the 'quality'. I want to download music files (from allofmp3.com) as Ogg Vorbis at CD quality for use on the PC (AmaroK) and to burn to CD for the car, etc. I want to also make a copy as an mp3 at a lower quality setting as I only have a 4 GB iPod and need to conserve space. I assume that AmaroK does not burn CDs or convert audio formats like iTunes does; what would I use to do this? I downloaded SoundConverter but I can not get it to work, I choose the files that I want to convert, hit the convert button and it just sits there, nothing happens. I also burned a CD with k3b but it seems that none of the track info carried over, they are labeled 'track1', track2' etc.
There are a lot of command line tools to do that, but if you are using amarok, there's a script called format-converter which is very nice and completely integrated into amarok:
Note the required packages; they contain the codecs necessary to do various file formats. You will need the ogg stuff and lame for mp3. After installation, the script is run from within amarok(Tools>Scripts>Run). To install the script in amarok you do Tools>Script>Install Scripts and navigate to where the script file is located.
