Question Compacting copied DVD files

Hi.

I've been able to copy the contents of a DVD using dvdbackup. I've even been able to play back the individual files using xine. That's great.

My question is, is there a way to "compact" the DVD files so it will fit into a single-layer DVD disc? The DVD I copied has a total of over 7 GB, which requires a dual-layer disc. I do have a DL capable DVD burner, but I don't have DL discs nor do I know which program to use in order to burn an ISO image onto a DL DVD disc (will growisofs work?) It will be more cost-effective if I can save one DVD movie on a single-layer DVD disc.

Unfortunately, using DVD Shrink is not an option for me.

TIA,
Dai

Thanks for the info. I am still hoping to be able to run a single program to do the ripping and shrinking easily, but it's probably something I can only dream of.

The version of transcode on my distro does not include "tcrequant," so I went to my server box (running FC3) and installed the latest version of transcode. I'll try and see how it works...
