cannot install opera from source as root

I'm trying to install Opera from the static source tarball. First I tried it as user, then as root, with the following results.

<<<<<<<
tim@sbc:~/opera-7.52-20040706.1-static-qt.i386-en$ install.sh*

Files will be installed as follows:
-----------------------------------------------------------
Wrapper Script : /home/tim/bin
Binaries : /home/tim/lib/opera/7.52-20040706.1
Plugins : /home/tim/lib/opera/plugins
Shared files : /home/tim/share/opera
Documentation : /home/tim/share/doc/opera
-----------------------------------------------------------
Is this correct [ y,n,c | yes,no,cancel ] ?
y

User "tim" does not have write access to /etc
System wide configuration files:
/etc/opera6rc
/etc/opera6rc.fixed
were not installed
tim@sbc:~/opera-7.52-20040706.1-static-qt.i386-en$ su
Password:
root@sbc:/home/tim/opera-7.52-20040706.1-static-qt.i386-en# install.sh*
bash: install.sh: command not found
>>>>>>>>

any idea why this is not working?

I've just installed slack 10.0, and have never had problems installing opera before on slack 9.1.

Thanks, that took care of the problem. I guess I've got to get used to the installation with a single step, instead of:

./configure
make
su
make install
