IRC is THE file sharing tool. With the proper search engine( packetnews) for example you can get anything.

i just downloaded GTK-Gnutella, and it seems to be alright apart from one question...the lights on my ADSL modem seem to go absolutely mad when its trying to connect to servers...does this eat up much downloads? id hate to see all my bandwidth/downloads being used just to try and find servers...also how long does this go on for, trying to find worthy servers?

it takes me like 2 to 7 minutes to find and connect to ONE server...is this normal? how long does it usually take you?

EDIT: even when its connected to 4 servers at a time (thats the min servers to keep alive which is default) the lights still go mad...obviously sending data...down the bottom left hand corner it has:
gnutellaNET traffic
from 2k up to 14k in
from 2k up to 14k out...

WTF?! it seems as thought my downloads are being wasted?!!!

EDIT AGAIN: ummm, does GTK-Gnutella download _only_ MP3's or something? ive done a search for programs/movies, yet nothing comes up...only MP3's...huh?!

Too bad I can't "anonymously" post this...

I really don't like GTK-Gnutella. I prefer LimeWire over it, even though they are run on the same network protocol, I just like the GUI of Limey a bit more. I am going more and more CLI only, so my taste may change soon to a CLI based client.

Anyway, you might wanna try a few of the other's mentioned in this thread, they sound pretty decent. For me, for now, since I have to constantly reboot into winXP, I just use Grokster to get the "needed" files.

Cool
