Question Bandwidth logging hogs 50% CPU and fills root fs

'Evening all!

I'm using FTP to transfer about 220GB of data from one server to another, but on the FTP client machine, /var/log/messages, /var/log/bandwidth and /var/log/kernel/info get filled with gigabytes of messages of the form:

Dec 15 00:16:56 localhost kernel: BANDWIDTH_OUT:IN= OUT=eth2 SRC=10.0.0.14 DST=10.0.0.13 LEN=52 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=38936 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=42695 DPT=21 WINDOW=2264 RES=0x00 ACK URGP=0

This happens so quickly that klogd and syslogd consume 50% of CPU time and I need to cat /dev/null into those logfiles to avoid the root filesystem from running out of space.

Does anyone know how can I stop this? I'm using Mandriva 2006.

Cheers!

ip tables

Hey there,

At a glance, the log format appears to be that of IPTABLES.
Try and verify this with iptables -L if you see a number of lines with the word "LOG" in it, that's probably what's going on.

I would suggest at that point, to edit the iptables configuration file and comment out the "LOG" entries.. I'm not familiar with mandriva so I'm not sure where the configuration is stored, if a tool exists or anything like that. Perhaps somebody can post a respost to this post with a tool or the path the configuration.
