Odd behavior, is it a virus

Lately I have had some odd behavior out of my toshiba laptop when on line. (system specs at end below.

-- The mouse suddenly stops working and sometimes I cannot find the cursor on the screen.
-- The lights on the router are blinking furiously
-- One time several pages of stuff I had not accessed for quite a while suddenly opened up on screen.
-- while working in GIMP, suddenly the "tool options" window disappeared and many of the settings (mostly defaults) went haywire or disappeared.

Does any of this sound like a known virus.

The fact that the router lights are blinking furiously makes me suspect that a lot of data is being moved in or out of the computer.

With no mouse control I have resorted to pulling the power jack out of the router and then shutting the computer down by holding the power button for 10 seconds, and then when I reboot everything is back to normal.

Is there any virus scanning software available to check out my system.

You might want to call your ISP and ask them to check on the router and see if the firmware is all up to date.

I've used Komodo in the past and it worked great.
https://www.comodo.com/home/internet...-for-linux.php

I had a terrible time installing it on Linux Mint but I saved the instructions.

Code:
ComoDo is really cav-linux in the Linux world.

ComoDo is dependent upon a library called: libssl0.9.8 so you will need to install that first. Go here and download the pkg-
https://packages.debian.org/squeeze/libssl0.9.8

Next install cav-linux (the .deb package) from the ComoDo website:
Pick your distribution and 32-bit or 64-bit architecture for your pc.

https://www.comodo.com/home/download/download.php?prod=antivirus-for-linux&track=3646&key5sk0=2128&key5sk1=651e96193f009806c367ad8a022329ae8a220b2d

Than go here and download the module filter driver for ComoDo to work.
It's description is "driver.tar"
http://www.bondoffamily-net.com/~kinta-chan/techknow/DownLoad/DownLoad.html

First install the dependent lib-
sudo dpkg --install libssl0.9.8 (name of pkg .deb)
2. Install the cav-linux .deb package
sudo dpkg --install cav- linux (name of pkg.deb)

3.Go through the agreement and answer Y for yes and choose the number 8 for english.
4. Reboot your pc.

5. Than ) Go to folder where you downloaded the driver:

sudo mv driver.tar /opt/COMODO/driver.tar

3) Then change directory

cd /opt/COMODO

4) Install it sudo ./post_setup.sh (Please be carefull at end of licence you NEED to accept with Y and then you can add email address, and choose Language 8)

5) Restart cmdavd /etc/init.d/cmdavd restart (Run as sudo!)

6) Reboot if must
Should do it-

Hi...

I don't know much about it but I wonder if Wireshark might be of use here. You should be able to install it using your package manager.

Regards...

For TeH Other OS it may, with Linux it doesn't.
Indeed I'd suspect something else being the culprit.
Have you checked your system, daemon and router logs / statistics for clues?
