weird screen during bootup

ok after reading a bunch of guides on how to get rid of the blank boot thing in kernel 2.6 (I use 2.6.6) I redid the kernel and came up with a new problem... now I get a weird bright screen with lines on it... ARGH... it soooooooooo bright, and it won't go away until it finishes booting, which in my case starts KDE

please help...

I had the same problem. Got rid of it with some options in the kernel. I don't remember which. I just know that graphical logo was off and svga in console mode too. I think Just experiment. There is some option that takes care of this. I didn't like the white stripes neither

if you want a boot logo, then you need to enable framebuffer support (Graphics support -> top option) and a vesa driver (same menu -- not sure if you NEED the vesa thing actually)
Also on that submenu, bottom option you need to enable a boot logo, and the one you want.
Lastly, in the console display driver support menu, enable mode selection and frame buffer console support.

That should do it.
