TRENDware 560X external modem problems

There are two interesting problems. Maybe 3.

1. The modem was recognized when I plugged it in the first time and set it up. It started to connect to the internet like it is supposed to, then it stopped and proceeded to try to connect again, and again, and again. I couldn't seem to stop it either.

2. When I tried rebooting Red Hat Linux 9, and I had logged on and tried to use it again, it wasn't to be found. I shut down RHL9 and disconnected it, started it up, and let it get to the log in screen. I shut it down again, and reconnected it. Kudza found it but when I logged in, it couldn't be found.

3. When this TRENDware modem decides it wants to be found, it doesn't give me the dial signal thing it is supposed to, it does this low hum and I get "error 8". If it makes no noise but is found I get "error 6".
