RHEL 5 LSI megasr SAS RAID does not find VolGroup after install

I've put together a brand new server and am trying to install RHEL 5. I've configured and am using the software RAID that came with the system. Its an LSI Logic for SAS1068E. According to the manufacturer, I've been directed to use their megasr driver from this location here:
ftp://ftp.supermicro.com/driver/SAS/.../Linux/Redhat/

After initializing the software RAID, running linux dd, and then completing the install, the computer rebooted and I got a Kernel panic saying that it could not find "VolGroup00". It seems as if it can't load the megasr driver to find the RAID configuration correctly. I've created an /etc/modules.conf file and entered the line for: alias scsi_hostadapter megasr and did an initrd, but that didn't work either.

Any ideas?

Reinstall RH without Virtualization. This driver (megasr) do not works with kernel 2.6.18-8.el5xen (only fits to 2.6.18-8.el5). After system update you have to boot with old kernel (2.6.18-8.el5) because this driver don’t want to work with updated kernel too. Make appropriate changes in grub.
