Old Newbie needs help moving Firefox Bookmarks into Ubuntu

I recently installed Ubuntu 11.10 into an older computer. I copied my Firefox bookmarks from my Win7 computer, running Firefox 10.0.2 and attached them to an email and sent them to myself on the Ubuntu computer using the same version of Firefox. I saved the HTML file, which I sent to Ubuntu, in my Home directory under, 'Documents'. I'm hoping that this was the proper thing to do. If this was correct, can you tell me (in simple terms), how I can move this file into Firefox so I can begin using my bookmarks? I shall appreciate your advice very much as I have totally run out of ideas.

In Firefox, click on Bookmarks. There should be an option to "Show All Bookmarks", click it. Click on the button 'Import and Backup'. There is an option to 'Import Bookmarks from Html'. Click it, navigate to the file you saved, click on it, and open. That should do it.

Hope this helps.

Open your bookmarks window (called "Show all bookmarks" on Mac). Click the little star icon then "Import bookmarks from HTML". Find your HTML file and voilą. YMMV like I said I'm referencing these steps from a Mac.

You could use Firefox Sync - http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/what-firefox-sync or a Third Party App like Xmarks - http://www.xmarks.com/

Thumbs up docrobg

Thanks everyone for your advice regarding moving my Firefox Bookmarks into Ubuntu. For some reason, it didn't want to work correctly and I became frustrated and and waited a couple of days and when I tried again, it worked!! I also took the suggestion regarding Firefox Sync and successfully installed it, after several attempts. BTW, this was my first ever forum entry. Thanks again for your help.
