Newbie Networking

I set up Mandriva 2007 as a dual boot a couple of days ago. The problem is, I cant access the shared files on my home windows home network (P2P--No Servers). I have a Win98 and WinXP machine on my home network that access my router wirelessly. I can access the wed flawlessly when running Mandriva, but dont know how to find or access the shares on the other machines. Ive been reading up on SAMBA but i get the opinion that this has something to do with client/server networks (which mine is not). Pleased be advised that im a total noob and have no clue when it comes to configuration issues (I dont mind being spoken to like a dummy).
Can Anyone help (Ive already solved other problems on this brilliant forum)
TIA--Stuart

I'm no expert, but I do know that samba can be used without a server, and Is needed to access windows shares. I suggest you look deeper into it.

Use the Samba troubleshooting tree. It's one of the best technical documents I've ever read:

http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/samba...k/ch09_01.html

A copy of the oreilly book is included with Samba, so it should already be on your computer.

Also, remember to check the firewalls on the windows machines. XP sp2 turns off incoming pings and file sharing ports.
