Hey Guys,
I'm trying to set up a simple tcp/ip connection between my Slackware 9.0 box and a Smoothwall box.

When I try and ping one of the other machines in a shell it says Destination Host Unreachable. Yet I can ping the localhost (127.0.0.1) from both machines. I am not running a firewall.

Here are the /etc/hosts of the machines...

Slack box
# For loopbacking.
127.0.0.1 localhost
192.168.0.110 josie.internal josie
192.168.0.111 smoothwall.internal smoothie
# End of hosts.

Smoothwall box
127.0.0.1
192.168.0.111 smoothwall.internal smoothie
192.168.0.110 josie.internal josie

Also when I boot the machines I have to type in the command "ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.110 netmask 255.255.255.0 up" to ping their OWN ip address
i.e 192.168.0.110.

Something tells me I'm doing something drasticly wrong. lol

Thanks in advance...

How did you choose to configure your NIC ? DHCP ?
Check your network configuration files ...

Could be /etc/sysconfig/network (RedHat, etc) or others like /etc/network/interfaces (Debian, etc)
