Do you are installing mplayer from a source file?

Why don't you try to install it from de repos.d? use
Code:
yum install mplayer-386

Bye

Even better, install from the "livna" repository using yum. This will ensure that you have MP3 support and some other stuff too. Then get the codecs from the mplayer site and put them into /usr/lib/win32 and you will have all the movie playback capabilities you need...

All the best.
