Smile Linux Conversion NEED HELP!


Hi i know that must sound stupid but if i get all the equivalent programs i use in windows then i will switch in linux instantly
because i have this bad habit to miss the gaming possibilities in Windows so.... if you have tricks in the Ease of mind because i think i am stuck with the Microsoft Pattern in my Head so please convert me!! PLEASe

i need
-MSN MESSENGER.
-Burning program with UNDERBUFFER PROTECTION.
-Raspppoe Connection (DSL)
-Mp3 Player
-Real Video/Audio Player.
-Some Irc Client.
-If exist a defragmentation client.
-some windows emulator. (Free If Possible)

There are useful tools called "search engines", you could try them first

Also have a hunt around on http://freshmeat.net/

I use Gaim with the MSN plugin

xcdroast has never coastered oin me

-Mp3 Player

I like xmms

-Real Video/Audio Player.

How about Real Player from http://www.real.com/ ?

-Some Irc Client.

XChat or epic4 depending on where I am

-If exist a defragmentation client.

Not needed

-some windows emulator. (Free If Possible)

WINE is as close as you are likely to get.

(rp-pppoe), which already comes with most new versions of linux distributions like RedHat

games - this isn't free, but wineX ( http://www.transgaming.com )may have potential in the near future

haha... windows sucks. no fragmentation here!

Surely it'll be your drive that defines if you have buffer underrun protection or not. The program can't do bugger all for that!

gtoaster and xcdroast are gui frontends to cdrecord which comes with all linux distro's and in the latest version (1.10) supports drives that have buffer under-run - AKA "burn proof" protection. Wine is the only free emulator and linux does not suffer from file system fragmentation, that's just another indication of the bad design that windows suffers from. Mp3, chat and PPPoE clients are many and varied under linux, it's just a matter of trying them untill you find one you like.
