Serial to USB conversion in linux?

Well here's the deal, i have this palm with a serial cable output, but a laptop with a parallel and usb ports. The natural thing to do was to buy a serial to usb conversion cable, which cost me just about 50 euro's.

But....How do I install linux (SuSE 9, new kernel with full usb support) to recognize the convertor and thus my palm? I can't seem to find generic drivers for the conversion cable but I paid 50 euro's, so I am dawm motivated to fix this asap.

Btw its a Bandridge CPL4201 with 16-bit processor.
