iPod conversion on Linux
Hi all.
I'm converting an iPod from Mac (HSF+) to PC style for a friend. Unfortunately, my friend does not have access to her Mac, and therefore her MP3 collection to restore the contents of her iPod once it has been reformatted.
I have HSF+ and VFAT support compiled into my kernel, so does anyone see any problems in simply copying the contents of the correct partition of the iPod onto my Linux box, then formatting the iPod as FAT32, then copying the contents back?
She doesn't want to lose her playlists, ratings etc.
I think it should be fine, but the preferences and config files on the iPod are all binary, so I can't tell if they are different for PC formatted iPods and Mac formatted ones.
Anyone tried this before?
Cheers.
Dave
