Knoppix STD Not recognizing network card....and need help accessing root!
I'm a complete Linux newbie running Knoppix-STD. I heard about knoppix std from thebroken.org and that got me interested. when i booted knoppix and ran airsnort, im not sure if it recoginzed my networking card (its an external USB Compex iWavePort WLU11A) and im not sure if its a prism or prism 2, or if it really even matters. can anybody help me out with this?
also, i need help getting root privaleges so i can run some other things like John the cracker
To run as root, you just need to open a terminal and type
su
There's no password in Knoppix so if you are prompted for root's password, just type ENTER.
About your networking card... why is it that you're not sure if it is recognised? When Knoppix boots, it starts giving you the list of detected devices, etc... isn't your card mentioned? Give more details ...

I don't recall seeing my networking card upon the bootup dialog, but it did go through some DHCP/IP broadcasting sort of thing. also, when i ran airsnort, i couldnt find where to select my card, and when i clicked "start"i got an error saying "couldnt mount monitor mode".
also, regarding the root problem, where should i go to type "su"? which shell do i need to open, or do i have to do it for every program (if so, what about the control panel options that require root). thank you so much as obvious as it is, i am a complete and need a lot of help.
