Installed Ubuntu 9.04 on laptop-cannot find networkmanager and and connect to wireles

I installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my Dell Laptop. The icon for Networkmanager does not show up on the system tray. Unable to connect to my wireless network.

Open a terminal, type in

lspci|grep Net
ifconfig
lsmod

and give us the output

Just trying to get into Ubuntu myself and same problem - no Network manager option in the system->administration menu

Also, network-admin doesn't work from a command line, prompts me to install gnome-network-admin.

sudo apt-get install gnome-network-admin

results :
"Couldn't find package gnome-network-admin"

via Synaptic :
gnome-system-tools is installed

lspci | grep Net

iwconfig

etc.
