Question I got a error flag "init: /dev/initctl: no such file"

I just finished installing Gentoo 2004.2, as a stage 1 install. I can't shutdown. When I type "shutdown -r 00" I get "init: /dev/initctl: no such file or directory". Can anyone tell me what I did wrong? I am using Kernel-2.6.8-gentoo.

I have this too with gentoo.

I am not sure if it is safe to force a reboot, in case it doesn't start up again.

Any idea where the /dev/initctl file comes from or how to create it please?

RE: initctl question

Hi! guys,
you may try this:
$mkfifo /dev/initctl
then do:
$reboot -f

good lucky everyone!
