Unhappy GRUB loading

I'm really not sure what I am doing.
I turned on my computer and got this...

GRUB Loading stage 1.5

GRUB loading, please wait...
Error 16

I know it's related to Ubuntu

My ex-husband left me with this computer so I have no clue what I am doing. He put Ubuntu on there and it has been a problem ever since.

Error 16
This was taken from the Grub manual,

Code:
16 : Inconsistent filesystem structure
This error is returned by the filesystem code to denote an internal error caused by the sanity checks of the filesystem structure on disk not matching what it expects. This is usually caused by a corrupt filesystem or bugs in the code handling it in GRUB.
You are going to need a Ubuntu cd or live-cd to check the file system.

Would he have messed with the system just so you couldn't use it?

If you think he would, you might be better off reinstalling the OS, you may be able to retrieve any important data with a live-cd and a flash drive.

Also sometimes when you boot up it will start a file dump of currupt files. Is this related to it also...

In order to fix this you are going to need a partition program or a linux live cd. If you just want windows back you may be able to boot windows cd and do a repair which should get your windows back but you still will not have your ubuntu.
