fedora core 3 - unable to play MP3

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Hi.

I installed Fedora core 3 and I can't play any MP3 audio files. Included player called XMMS says that the support for MP3 is away because of some licence problems. I downloaded BMP player and it can't play MP3 files either.

Can anyboy tell me what should I install and where to get it to play MP3s ?

I really didn't imagine that it would be so big problem to do such simple task in Linux :-(

Another thing is that computer doesn't even play audio CDs (there is no sound). Audio card is installed properly {sound test plays OK). Only way I found was to convert audio CD to OGG files, then it plays OK.

I'm getting a bit disappointed by failing to do such simple things in Linux :-(

Ales

Do a google search for pbone xmms-mpg123 rpm .
You should see an entry for xmms-mpg123-1.2.7-22.i386.rpm which you can download.
You install it with the command: rpm -Uvh xmms-mpg123-1.2.7-22.i386.rpm

Fedora is the only distro I think that doesn't play MP3s out of the box, don't blame linux.

Unless you add the slightly outdaed RedHats though. On a completely useless note..

redhat dumped MP3 as they would have had to pay a royalty for EVERY copy of Fed that shipped with it, or so I heard. See the problem?
