Exclamation Failed to open "/ on ". The specific location is not supported

When I go to open my network settings or browse network I get the following error "Failed to open "/ on ". The specific location is not supported". I got this before and found a site online that gave me a code to run in my terminal that solved the issue, until my linux crashed, and I had to start from the beginning. I am using Linux on a acer chromebook 15, I have Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS \n \l. I am very new to this and need to open my network so I can connect my VPN. Please help!

What distro/version of Linux are you running on the Chromebook? It might not hurt to know what desktop environment you are using.

What specific command do you issue to produce that result?

You may want to read this: https://www.linuxquestions.org/linux...Ask_a_Question THey more information you provide, the easier it is for others to help you.

Oh, and welcome to LQ.

If this error appears in thunar (xfce file manager) or nautilus (gnome file manager), then gvfs tools are missing.
See this article.
