Cool details for internet connection


Sir....I am from India I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 in which I could not get connected to mozilla 3.6.ubuntu is showing internet connected automatically but I could not browse any site.I am using a broadband connection form BSNL India service.This is a DSL type broad band connection.
further details as follows:
Device Name:WAN mainport (PPPoE)
Device Type:PPPoE
Server Type:PPP
Transport:TCP/IP
Authentication:MD5CHAP
CompressionNone)
PPP Multilink framing:Off
server IP Address:59.93.112.1
Client IP Address:59.93.118.152
Ubuntu is also showing diffrerent IP number. So please tell me
the way how to establish Internet connection in Ubuntu 9.10.
I am using D-Link GLB 802C router.Thank you sir...

Your router appears connected as it responding to pings.
It may be worth to check firewall settings
in the GUI, you can jst check that the WWW HTTP box is checked.
Sorry cant tell you how to do that with terminal.

Is Work Offline enable in the Firefox?
Try pinging to google and see if it shows any icmp packets.

You can also use any text browser to check if firefox pains you.

If you are BSNL Customer, Quick way to check is:

http://192.168.1.1

Does it opens up a diagnostic info webpage?
If it doesnt then check the modem connectivity.

If it does open then go to WAN and see the first entry assigned any IP(may be starting with 172.x.x.x).

its not /etc/interfaces but /etc/network/interfaces.
